johanna

hamburg, sunday june 7th 2015.

this time it was lovely johanna from donnamodels.de that paid me a visit in the studio - for yet another a test session.

we took some fashion-like portraits for her newly established sedcard on medium format as well as on some 4x5” sheet film.

the 6x6 work was done on fresh rollei RPX 400 whereas I was shooting some long expired kodak tri-x for the large format part of it.

all development and scanning was done by myself.

klara

hamburg, march 20th & may 16th, 2015

this post covers two sessions I recently shot with klara - the first one was a test-session for donnamodels.de and the second one a “best friends”-session with her friend tash. both were accompanied by laura who did the hair and make up work.

we shot both… medium as well as large format - on expired film. we also took some polaroids on type 54…

I am absolutely in love with the results and I hope you like them as much as I do - all development and scanning was done by myself.

carl philip

hamburg, may 31st 2015

it was my very session with a male modell since ages and therefore I was really nervous right before I met the charming carl. it was another test-session for donnamodels.de and it turned out to be one of the most productive ones I was shooting this year.

I met carl in hamburg’s office district “city nord” and brought just my mamiya RB67 and a handful of rollei retro 400s rolls - but almost every frame that we shot turned out to be a keeper.

all development and scanning was done by myself.

here’s a small selection of our results… enjoy!

svea

hamburg, april 2015

another test-session for donna models, hamburg and this time it was lovely svea that paid me a visit in the studio.

we had a very pleasant time taking her portrait and photographing a couple of different sets… it was yet another session with my burke &j ames “orbit” monorail camera. I had the schneider-kreuznach symmar-s 5.6/210mm mounted and and we shot some expired kodak plus-x pan [exp. 01/1987].

we also shot a few rolls with my rollei 6008 pro and the rolleigon 4/150mm.

hope you like the results of our very first collaboration… all development and scanning was done by myself.

antonia insa

hamburg, march 2015

it was my second test-session for donna models, hamburg and this time it was lovely antonia that paid me a visit in the studio.
although she had quite a long journey we started early in the morning… and had three very pleasant and successful hours taking some pictures for her newly established sedcard.

it was the very first session I did with my “new” burke &j ames orbit monorail camera and therefore I must admit that I was a bit nervous during that session - mounted a schneider-kreuznach symmar-s 5.6/210mm and all 4x5” negatives were shot on kodak tri-x pan [exp. 01/2000].
we also shot three rolls of kodak tmax 100 [exp. 07/2001] with my rollei 6008 pro (planar 2.8/80mm, rolleigon 4/150mm).

we took four different sets with a couple of different outfits… starting with some casual stuff, moving forward to a very nice long dress in the end.
hope you enjoy this little roundup… all development and scanning was done by myself.

silja

sunday, march 01st 2015

wonderful silja and her friend jani payed me a visit for a three-hour studio-session and we had a very relaxing and quiet efficient sunday.

once again: thanks a lot for stopping by - the pleasure was mine.

besides a roll of kodak tri-x pan [exp. 03/1989] for my “born in…” series of portraits we shot five rolls of fresh ilford HP5+ - all on my mamiya RB67 with its sekor-c 3.8/127mm.
all development and scanning was done by myself.

as if we were able to use studio2 as well as studio3 of the ff-fotoschule that day I decided to use those two rooms with two different backdrops - the first shots were taken in studio3 with it’s raw brown wall.
later on we moved to studio2 and used some black fabric as the setting for our shots.finally we took a roll of ten shots in the old industrial staircase.

please find the results of our collaboration below and enjoy this body of work - hope you like it as much as I do!?

kristina

sunday, february 08th 2015

a quite short but nevertheless very efficient encounter… almost every shot turned out to be a keeper and I really love the results of our first session!

anne

sunday, december 7th 2014

we had three hours of taking anne’s portrait and shooting some classic nudes - in the ff-fotoschule where all my studio work is done.I brought a whole bunch of different films as well as several cameras in different formats - 35mm, 6x7 and 4x5”.

we exclusively shot expired film…

two rolls of kodak tmax 100 [expired 1989]
one roll of orwo NP27 [exp. 07/1992], for my “born in…”-seriesa roll of HP5 [expiration unknown/presumably early 1990s] for a contact sheeta dozen sheets of kodak tri-x pan [exp. 05/1981]
and some sheets of kodak panatomic-x [exp. 05/1965], as a preliminary study for an upcoming project - celebrating this film’s fiftieth year of expiry in 2015.

finally we also tried some expired polaroids [type 53 - expired 2001] which turned out to be almost dead…

please find some of our results below… and enjoy!

roarie

november 27th 2014.

met the wonderful, world-travelling roarie for the very first time and we had about two hours taking her portrait for my “born in…”-series and shooting some nudes in the studio as well.it was my first session entirely shot on expired film… in different formats - 4x5” (kodak tri-x pan [exp. 05/1981], 6x7 [kodak tri-x pan - exp. 03/1989] and 35mm [ilford hp5 - expiration unknown/presumably early 1990s].

moreover it was the first time I was shooting */really/* old 4x5”-sheets… and discovered some mould on some of them.
didn’t remove those spots through editing because they let those captures appear somewhat unique - at least in my opinion.

with one year of shooting film exclusively I decided to become more honest about my work - with that in my mind I forced myself to start another project and randomly publish some of my contact sheets.

roarie was the the very first “victim” of that project and although I am not too confident with my 35mm-compositions [I did not shoot that 2x3-ratio for quite some time] it turned out to be an fantastic notion… and I will keep on - promised!

so stay tuned to get an insight on what shots where taken before and after the one you might have seen in my portfolio.

and now for the results of our first collaboration… and hopefully not the last - hope you like them as much as I do!
enjoy!

emily

sunday, november 16th 2014.

met lovely emily for the first (of two) planned sessions during my business trip to berlin.our location was a small suite in one of the famous hotels in the capital, built in 1929. therefore we chose some vintage outfits and classic black & white.

at this point I have to admit that I really love to work on location… and the challenges of available light photography.

we shot around eighty frames with my mamiya RB67 and the sekor 3.8/127mm - exclusively on fresh ilford HP5+.

all development and scanning was done by myself.

enjoy this selection of the shots we took!

frederike

october, 26th 2014.

I haven’t been in the studio for quite some time and met frederike for the very first studio-session since early spring - as a restart for me working in the studio.

we shot several sessions before so we decided just to capture some close and intimate portraits as well as one picture for my current “born in…”-project.

all work is done with my mamiya RB67… on fresh ilford HP5+ and some expired kodak tmax [exp. 09/1991] for the “born in…”-series.

hope you like those images as much as I do… enjoy!

jana

november, 2nd 2014.
around twelve degrees centigrade - overcast skies and light rain at the end of the session.

we had a very quick session of not even two hours and I brought my rolleiflex 6008 pro - we shot three rolls of ilford PAN F and two rolls of kodak ektachrome 100+ [exp. 12/2001] .

here are some of the results… enjoy and hope you like them

katharina

saturday. october 18th 2014.
around eighteen degrees centigrade - overcast sky.

been to beelitz-heilstätten once again - as if there are current plans to recultivate this giant abandoned area, probably for the very last time.
after my prearranged model canceled our appointment, fabulous katharina applied at short notice and we spent about four hours taking her portrait at this wonderful place - some misfortunes turn out to be a great chance after all.

used my graflex [crown graphic] as well as my “new” mamiya RB67.

we shot around seventy frames - mostly on fresh ilford FP4+ & HP5+, but also some sheets of kodak ektachrome 100+ [exp. 04/2000] and a roll of fresh portra 400 .
finally I shot one more roll of old kodak tmax 400 - expired in 1990 [the year katharina was born].
lenses used: schneider-kreuznach symmar-s 5.6/240mm - mamiya sekor-c 3.8/127mm - mamiya sekor 4.5/250mm.
black & white-development was done by myself, C41 and E6 by open eyes, hamburg - all scanning by myself.

julia

saturday. september, 27th.
around twelve degrees centigrade - clear blue sky.

met the incredible jan wer? and lovely julia right for sunrise. used the wonderful morning light to capture around a dozen frames - exclusively with my 4x5” crown graflex on expired kodak ektachrome [exp. 04/2000] and fresh ilford fp4+.
most stunning: almost every single shot turned out to be a keeper.

enjoy the results and thanks for stopping by.

alissa

saturday. september, 13th.
eightteen degrees centigrade - overcast sky.

met lovely alissa in hamburg’s 1960’s office district, the city nord and we had about two hours of taking her portraits.

exclusively shot on large format [graflex - crown graphic], using expired film - kodak tmax 100 [exp. 08/2000] and polaroid type 55 [exp. 12/2005]

enjoy and hope you like those pictures as much as I do!

kathy

sunday. september, 7th.
around twenty degrees centigrade - cloudy skies - light drizzle at the beginning, dry for the rest of the session.

I met kathy at the underground station and we strolled around hamburg’s redlight district, st. pauli - for about two hours.

shot with a rolleiflex 6008 professional and a rolleigon 4/150mm - wide open.
five rolls of film - ilford fp4+ and pan f.
as if the contrasts where a bit low that day: 30% of extra time for the development.

more posing and fashion-like as usual - but I hope you like it still.
